

The thyroid test (also called a thyroid function test or TFT) checks how well your thyroid gland — a small, butterfly-shaped gland in the front of your neck — is working. The test is done through a simple blood sample. During the test, the lab measures hormones produced by the thyroid: mainly TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), and sometimes T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine). TSH is often the first hormone checked — because changes in TSH tend to show up before T3 or T4 go outside their normal range
